Early Life
Hazrat Yusuf (AS) was born in Canaan to Yaqub (AS) and his wife Rachel. He was the eleventh of twelve sons. Hazrat Yusuf was a handsome and intelligent young man. He was also a favorite of his father.
The Dream
One night, Hazrat Yusuf (AS) had a dream. In the dream, he saw the sun, moon, and eleven stars prostrating to him. He told his dream to his father, who interpreted it as a sign that he would become a great prophet.
Sold into Slavery
Hazrat Yusuf's (AS) brothers were jealous of him. They plotted to kill him, but one of them, named Judah, suggested that they sell him into slavery instead. The brothers agreed, and they sold Hazrat Yusuf to a group of traders for twenty pieces of silver.
In Egypt
The traders took Hazrat Yusuf (AS) to Egypt, where he was sold to a high-ranking official named Potiphar. Potiphar's wife, Zuleikha, falsely accused Hazrat Yusuf of trying to seduce her. Potiphar believed his wife and threw Hazrat Yusuf into prison.
In Prison

Released from Prison
The cupbearer remembered Hazrat Yusuf (AS) when he was released from prison. He told Pharaoh about Hazrat Yusuf, and Pharaoh sent for him. Hazrat Yusuf interpreted Pharaoh's dream, which predicted a seven-year famine.
Vizier of Egypt
Pharaoh was so impressed by Hazrat Yusuf's (AS) wisdom that he appointed him as the vizier of Egypt. Hazrat Yusuf used his power to prepare for the famine. He stored up food during the seven years of plenty.
